Today was supposed to be my last day at work, but the stupid snow stopped all buses going to Bristol. I didn't get to say a proper goodbye to my friends. :-(

Headed up the boring highway to Newark airport. This should be the last time my parents have to pick me up there! I will be able to fly direct from Dublin to Dulles or Philly from now on!

I miss you Honda Civic! I look longingly at your English counterparts dreaming of the day I'll have another one. Especially days like today when the bus never shows up and I have to take the crap one instead.

This is on Ryanair's emergency card. I understand no high heels, I could even let the no dangly jewelery pass(although, who's going to pull that off in an emergency), but no glasses and no DENTURES??? What the heck!!!??? I'd prefer if the legally blind people keep their glasses on as we try to evacuate and I think people with dentures should still be allowed to chew if necessary! I wouldn't be surprised if they start charging people with dentures an extra surcharge....

This is how close the bus gets to the hedge on the way home from work.

I know you love bus pictures. Sorry for the long post, but today was THE most bizarre commute ever. The picture is of the first thing that happened. The bus is driving along and we come across this truck with its back end still on the narrow road. The bus driver stops and is honking the horn. He finally has to get out and go have a word with the driver. Apparently the truck tried to pull into a business, but there's a gate, so he can't move forward. The picture is the driver coming back to the bus, but stopping to direct some traffic in the meantime (this is futile because people just go whenever they want). Eventually he gets back in, pulls the side mirror in and literally drives through the hedge to get around the truck. There were about 3 inches between us and him. He stops to put the mirror back. Then about 2 stops later he pulls up and hits the mirror on the bus shelter and the mirror breaks off. Visibly annoyed he gets out and throws the mirror into the bus. We continue on. We're coming up on another stop and there is a man laying on ground*, his head is on the road and feet are on the curb. The other people at the stop are frantically attending to him. The bus driver stops and gets out. Comes back on and asks if there are any first aiders on the bus. Nope. He goes out. He comes back and says, 'What's next!?' Seriously! I felt really bad for the guy. We then had to get out of the bus and wait for a replacement bus because of the broken mirror. It was a crazy commute for sure!

*Apparently the guy had an epileptic seizure. He was standing up within a few minutes. And fortunately a doctor from the local surgery pulled up in his Porsche.

We pulled up at the bus stop and this is what I saw. It made me laugh. He's never been there before! Sorry about the quality of the picture, but I didn't have much time.

A few months ago the government issued senior citizens with free bus passes allowing them to travel anywhere in the country for free after 9am. Sure enough they're out there at the bus stops at the stroke of nine. In addition to slowing down the morning commute, it also makes for a very full bus in the afternoon when I'm going home from work. Well, there was a group of them out there today. The thing is, you can tell they don't normally take the bus. First of all, they got on in Bristol city centre. They were dressed like they were going for a light hike and some even had walking sticks. They didn't have bags of any type (backpacks, shopping, handbags, etc). Not a hair was out of place on the head. I think that's the most bizarre part...what were they DOING in Bristol?? Then, this was my favorite, they got on the bus and were pleasantly surprised to see that FirstBus supplies free reading material to its passengers. Well, if you take the bus regularly, you are quite familiar with the daily issue of the Metro (if you're not in the know, it's a step up from the tabloids) littering the aisles. Anyway, if I could just find out what these large groups of senior citizens are doing in Bristol during the weekday, I would be very happy!

The best thing about riding the bus is that you're up high enough to see over the big stone walls and hedges. This is part of the view on the ride into work. I really enjoy my bus ride since finding this new route. It's very relaxing, except for the part where the road is really narrow and we almost hit other cars. Yesterday I thought we were going to be flattened by an 18 wheeler. Lord knows what it was doing on this road! Anyway, I'll probably try and take more of these, so stay tuned!

Sorry, I didn't want to continue with the bus theme, but I was chuffed that I managed to get this shot without anyone seeing and thinking I was totally crazy. I'm super anal when I'm on the bus. Well, actually only with the seat I sit in. When I get on the bus I always go for this seat. See the yellow line?? That means it's the wheel well and my short legs will be propped up nicely. Since I'm one of the first people on the bus in the morning and after work, I almost always get it. Problems arise when I ride with Wes. His long legs can't handle the wheel well. Thankfully, I think our relationship will overcome this.
