When I first moved to England I found the street lights creepy and not effective. I was nervous when I was out after dark (which could be 5pm) because they cast an eerie glow. I still find them creepy and not effective, but I will go out after dark now!

They're good for keeping night time light pollution down, but yeah, I do really dislike them and hate walking alone when they're on.
love the orange streetlights! (so much so that i named my LJ after them).
I like them too! I think they're gentle and atmospheric, rather than spooky and ineffectual! ;)
