I hate this as well! I'm constantly jumping my carnie hands back and forth between the tap when I want to simply just wash my hands and not bother filling the bowl.

Sorry...this post was a bit tongue in cheek actually. Spend a bit more time on UKY or search on 'mixer taps' and you'll see why! Actually, I don't mind separate taps. :-)
